How do I copy files from my H drive to OneDrive on my computer?

For Windows


If you are working off campus, make sure to set up a VPN connection first. You can find instructions on how to do that here


1 - Open File Explorer and navigate to your H: drive. You will see all the files and folders that you have stored there.

2 - Select the files and folders that you want to move to your OneDrive. You can use Ctrl+A to select all, or Ctrl+click to select multiple items.

3 - Right-click on the selected item(s) and choose Copy. This will remove them from your H: drive and store them temporarily on your clipboard.

4 - Navigate to your OneDrive folder. You can find it in the left sidebar of File Explorer, under Quick Access, or by clicking on the OneDrive icon in the taskbar.

5 - Right-click on an empty space in your OneDrive folder and choose Paste. This will move the files and folders from your clipboard to your OneDrive.

6 - You will see a green check mark on the icons of the files and folders that have been successfully synced to your OneDrive.

If you see a blue cloud icon, it means that the file or folder is only available online and not on your computer. You can double-click on it to download it to your computer.

If you see a red cross icon, it means that there was an error syncing the file or folder. You can hover over it to see the error message and try to fix it. 



 

For Mac


If you are working off campus, make sure to set up a VPN connection first. You can find instructions on how to do that here.


1 - Open Finder and Click Go.

2 - Select Connect to Server.

3 - Add smb://cougarnet.uh.edu/root/this home drive will be specific to your CougarNet account/yourcougarnetID

Note: Contact your local IT department for information on your Home Drive.

4 - Click Connect.

5 - Select Registered User.

6 - Enter Name: cougarnet\add your CougarNet ID.

7 - Enter Password (this is your CougarNet password).

8 - Open OneDrive (web version).

9 - Select My files to browse and find a folder to transfer files the files to.

10 - Select a file and drag it into OneDrive.

The file is now in OneDrive.
