As a means of communication, members of the UH community receive a UH email alias and a UH email account. The email alias is a pointer that directs messages to a destination email account. UH uses aliases to send important information such as emergency closures or information from colleges or departments.
The email alias is not an actual mailbox. Anything being sent to the alias (ex: jdoe@uh.edu) address is being delivered to the mailbox that you designated in myUH or PASS. If the destination email is non-UH (ex: gmail) a copy of the email will also be sent to the @cougarnet.uh.edu or @central.uh.edu email account.
Instructions on how to check and update destinations for UH email aliases:
After you graduate
Your UH email alias will be available for your use as long as it is directed to a valid email address.
Go to the Updating a Student Email Address in myUH website for information on how to change the destination of your email alias.
