Computers that need IP (Internet Protocol) addresses to connect to the campus network should be configured to get their IP addresses using DHCP (Dynamic Host Configuration Protocol).

Static (fixed) IP addresses are only assigned for devices that require them, like on-campus networked printers and servers.
