What is the difference between the UH email alias and the CougarNet email?

The email alias acts as a pointer that directs email messages to your destination email address. UH uses email aliases to send important information such as emergency closings or information from colleges or departments. The email alias does not have a password or an inbox that can be logged into directly.  Check your destination email for all emails sent to your @uh.edu email alias.

The @cougarnet.uh.edu mailbox is your official UH email. It uses the same password as your CougarNet account. To access your @cougarnet.uh.edu email log into your Microsoft 365 account via AccessUH or the web. After logging in, look for the Outlook app.

  • Log into AccessUH with your CougarNet userID and password
  • Click the Microsoft 365 icon and follow the link
  • Enter your UserID: ex: CougarNetID@cougarnet.uh.edu
  • Enter your CougarNet password

  • Log into Microsoft 365
  • Enter your UserID: ex: CougarNetID@cougarnet.uh.edu
  • Enter your CougarNet password

**** If you need a CougarNet password, reset it via the CougarNet Password Wizard.
