What is the cost and coverage period of the UH System Endorsed Student Health Insurance Plan?

The UH System-endorsed Student Health Insurance Plan is underwritten by AcademicBlue/BlueCross BlueShield of Texas and administered by Academic HealthPlans (AHP). Academic HealthPlans is a separate company that provides management and administrative services for AcademicBlue.


The Student Health Center will file a claim with the UH System-endorsed Student Health Insurance Plan. During the Open Enrollment period, the student must complete their enrollment for each coverage period at least 2 business days prior to their scheduled appointment. The student is financially responsible for all services rendered during their scheduled appointment if they do not complete their enrollment for the current coverage period prior to their appointment check-in.


The cost of the plan depends on the coverage period:


Early Fall (08/01 - 12/31): 

Available to all eligible new students or students who were not enrolled in the plan the previous term.


Fall (09/01 - 12/31):

Available to all eligible students who are renewing their coverage from the previous term.


Spring/Summer (01/01 - 08/31):

Available to all eligible students.

A Spring only coverage period is not available.


Summer (06/01 - 08/31):

Available to all eligible students.
