Do I need to begin paying back my student loans right away?

Repayment of your Federal Direct loans and most private loans begins six months after you graduate, withdraw from school, or drop below half time status. Federal Direct Parent PLUS loans require payments beginning within 60 days after the final disbursement.

For Federal Direct loans, learn more at the Repayment web page at www.studentloans.gov.

For private loans, check with your lender if you are unsure as to when you should begin repayment. You will be notified by your lender in advance of your first payment date with more comprehensive information.
