What is a Master Promissory Note (MPN)?

The Master Promissory Note (MPN) is a legal document in which you promise to repay your loan(s) and any accrued interest and fees to the U.S. Department of Education. It also explains the terms and conditions of your loan(s). After the initial submission of an MPN at studentloans.gov, you will not need to complete a new MPN as long as you attend the University of Houston, unless your program changes from undergraduate to graduate.

You are required to complete a Free Application For Federal Student Aid application each year in order to apply for additional Federal Direct Loans.
