Can I get a virus on my Macintosh? If so, how do I prevent it?

While the Macintosh OS X community has experienced almost no virus activity, it is possible for Macintosh computers to be infected.

Macintosh users need to engage in the same activities that Microsoft Windows users currently enjoy: keep your computer's operating system up to date, and install and maintain an anti-virus product.

The three most common anti-virus products used for Macintosh computers are McAfee's VirusScan and Virex, Symantec's Norton Anti-Virus, and the anti-virus product from Sophos.
