I am a Nonresident Alien, and I have been working at the University for the past two years. Social Security and Medicare taxes have been deducted from my check for the past three months. Why did the University start deducting these taxes?
When did you first "arrive" in the United States? You are only exempt from FICA taxes for 2 "calendar" years if you are a J-1 visaholder or 5 “calendar” years for a F-1 visaholder.
